Via CNN: Seniors: 61C, 38O White male: 55C, 45O Blacks: 8C, 92O 42 percent say US is in serious recession. 2 1/2 hours from polls closing. Will update as new numbers come in. Update: Exit poll data is somewhat good at gauging demographic trends, NOT for predicting the final results. I won't run "final result" numbers since they're almost always wrong. Update II: Late deciders: 58C, 42O

Oil up! Freak out! Dow up? Shut up! The state-run media in Canada (and the citizen-owned media who do their best to compete with them) all lament, daily (with intra-day lament updates, all day long), the price of a barrel of oil, and the resulting price of gas. In catching up on economic news this week, I've noticed a trend toward real world reports. It's as though a few in the media have awakened to the fact that a large segment of our population is struggling to just get by -- which for regular folks isn't exactly news, but it's a welcome change from the usual indifference.
